A couple of weeks ago we got word of a new Elements Eight rum which was just about to hit the market and a personal invitation from Carl Stephenson, (co-owner of Elements Eight along with Andreas Redlefsen) to join him for an advance taster.  It’s difficult to refuse those sorts of offers and so we popped along to Trailer Happiness full of excitement and keen to be seeing just what those innovative guy’s at Elements Eight are bringing to the rum world now.

 

Some days are better than others and ones that include emails that run along the lines of “Please find attached an invitation from Angostura Ltd to a tutored tasting by Master Distiller John Georges of Legacy by Angostura, The World’s Most Expensive Rum” are better still…

 

One of the benefits of starting TheFloatingRumShack.com has meant that over the years we’ve been introduced to a great many fine people connected with the drinks industry and rum in particular.  Better still we’ve become firm friends with a few of them.  So it was particularly pleasurable for us to learn of a new affiliation between five of our closest rum brothers that seeks to further promote the industry we love so much.

TheFloatingRumShack.com has featured a few supermarket rums over the years and we think that if you know where they originate from, then you’ll tend to have a different view of them – generally more positive.  We also know that “image” is everything.  A popular and well known rum brand comes preloaded with a history and providence, an attractive package (hopefully) and high probability of peer approval.  And I know I’m generalising a little, but I think that in the consumer’s eyes this carries a ‘weighting factor’ that supermarket branded products just can’t cope with.  

 

So it's unfair to compare them directly right?
