A Little 80's Action...

In a recent meeting with Stefanie Holt, the International Brand Ambassador, we were more than happy to find out that Demerara Distillers Ltd (DDL) have recently released a new limited edition El Dorado 25 year old expression which was due to arrive in the UK at the end of December (2013).

El Dorado 25 Year Old Vintage Demerara RumThe El Dorado 25 year old rum is a 1986 vintage blend of Port Mourant double wooden pot still, Enmore wooden column still, and Saville (metal four column) still marques. Each marque was selected after 25 years in wood in 2011 by the late Master Blender, George Robinson (who sadly passed away in October 2011). The blend was then put into marrying barrels where they stayed until bottling in 2013.  DDL’s new Master Blender: Sharon-Sue Hang would have been involved I’m sure.

We understand that there will be a fairly exclusive (and hence limited attendance) tasting of this exciting expression, to be scheduled for sometime in the not too distant future.  Drawing on the press release we can share the following: “This exquisite vintage rum possesses a silky smoothness which challenges the oldest cognac. El Dorado 25 Year Old Demerara Rum is elusive, rich, smooth and mellow with viscous mouth-feel and subtle notes of caramel and heavy fruit cake.  The finish develops slowly and leaves opulence to last.”  You can take it as read that TheFloatingRumShack.com will be looking to catch Stef’s eye with regard to a space in that tasting.

The El Dorado 25 Year Old Vintage Reserve is supplied bottled in their attractive decanter format, which is further packaged in a very nicely printed steel canister.

El Dorado 25 year old will be available through Master of Malt, The Whisky Exchange & drinksupermarket.com and at time of publication we understand the RRP will be somewhere around £375.  The UK will only see a small number of cases from this limited release, so you’ll need to move quickly on this one – take care not to be distracted by the previous (and no longer available) 1980 release.

For those who like a little background reading on El Dorado Rums: they are produced in Guyana by Demerara Distillers Ltd, who have over 300 years heritage of sugar and rum production. Guyana derives its name from an Amerindian word meaning ‘Land of many waters’. Nestled on the north-eastern shoulder of South America, Guyana was discovered in 1498, and was a British Colony until 1966.

Multi award winning, the range contains the seven time International Wine & Spirits Competition “Best Rum in the World” (El Dorado 15 year old), and the highest ever scoring rum at the Chicago Beverage Tasting Institute - 98/100 (El Dorado 21 year old).

El Dorado offers a range of outstanding rums due to the unique stills which produce such a diverse range of distillates.  These rums are presented with minimum age statements, but often contain much older rums in the blend.
