3 Stars to M&S…
Marks and Spencer have taken a very welcome decision to expand their rum selection with the inclusion of Plantation 3 Stars. This is nicely compliments the existing Ferrand expressions (Bajan Estate XO
and Cana Negra Guatemalan
) bringing a high quality white rum to a wider market place here in the UK. The tip off told us about pricing and availability so please read on!
Emma Dawson, the Wine & Spirits Buyer at M&S told us: “We are launching a newly expanded range of own label and branded spirits this autumn. This is an exciting time for the M&S spirits range since we are taking a new direction to bring in a more comprehensive range which is equally unique and authoritative. We identified the gaps in our range [Note: we revealed that they added Abelha Cachaça a few months ago – Pete
] and thought a premium white rum was an obvious one. Then we tasted a wide selection of offerings looking for an exclusive new brand that wasn’t listed in any other major retailers. Plantation perfectly met that brief. We already work with products from Cognac Ferrand and particularly like the white rum for having a more expressive style than the average you see on the market. The additional sweetness and rich fruity character make it a rum that is a great cocktail mixer but could equally work as a sipping rum”
We agree, as you can read in our review of Plantation 3 Stars when it first launched by clicking here
. Emma continues: “We’re stocking the Plantation rum in our top 138 largest stores. The Golden rums are in 241 stores. That is really good distribution in terms of how far down the chain we send our products”. Whereas the Bajan Estate XO and Cana Negra Guatemalan are branded in M&S packaging, the Plantation 3 Stars will hit the shelves in its familiar guise.
We are lead to believe that Plantation 3 Stars will be on the shelves and online from the beginning of October and looks to be priced at £25 for a 41.2%ABV/70cl bottle. Pleasingly, it seems there may be a promotion of the Plantation 3 Stars during December (2014) with the price down to an amazing £22, providing the welcome opportunity to stock up for the festive period! Please note that this has not been confirmed by M&S though.
We find the Plantation 3 Stars to have a bright, complex nose that is inviting and leads to a fruity, multi-layered palate that lingers in the finish. The blend of three island styles (Jamaica, Barbados and Trinidad) really have been wonderfully integrated leading to an interesting and pleasing sipping experience. Plantation 3 Stars can be used to great effect in the humble daiquiri – you’ll be wondering how just three ingredients can combine to produce such a fab drinking experience.
For those interested in purchasing a bottle of the Bajan Estate XO and Cana Negra Guatemalan, then they are available in some of the M&S outlets across the country, but perhaps more easily obtained online by clicking here
for the Bajan and here
for the Guatemalan.
If you really can't wait (which is understandable), then 3 Stars can be purchased online from MoM for around £21+P&P.
