A particularly trying Friday at work was brightened considerably by some news that we just have to share. UK based El Dorado rum fans take note:
November 22nd 2012: El Dorado 15 Year Old rum is going on sale at an amazing price of…
…£35.99 at Aldi supermarkets here in the UK (while stocks last of course). (We know where we’ll be going for our portion of Christmas cheer!)
El Dorado 15 Year Old is a fantastic sipping rum that will change your ideas of what rum can be. We think its amazing – complex spicy rich, fruit flavours – best enjoyed sipped neat, it’s a real treat and that will both blow your mind and amaze your taste buds. You don’t need to take our word for it either – El Dorado 15 Year Old rum has been picking up awards since 1994 and won the International Wine & Spirits Competition for Best Rum an amazing 7 times.
So what makes El Dorado 15 Year Old so special? The thing that attracts most people will be the age statement and stunning packaging, but age only hints at the complexity and story behind it. El Dorado 15 Year Old is a blend of specially selected rums from the world famous Guyanese stills at the Demerara Distillers: the Enmore and Diamond Coffey stills, the Port Mourant double wooden pot still and the Versailles single wooden pot still. All these stills produce distillates with different flavour profiles which are then aged in oak for a minimum of 15 years, but could be as old as 25 years.
It’s often compared and contrasted with El Dorado 12 Year Old – but the main difference between ED12 and ED15 is that the 15YO includes distillate from the Versailles still. It was also the first rum that El Dorado produced specifically to sit alongside luxury scotch and cognac in a way that rum hadn't done before. In this respect it’s probably changed the way that a lot of people think about rum.
I implore you to head along to your nearest Aldi Supermarket when this rum becomes available and buy a bottle for yourself. I’m telling you now, because at that price – they won’t last long. The Aldi website has a handy ‘store locator’ feature – ours is about 13 miles away, but that won’t stop us. Currently Master of Malt have a bottle available for purchase around £46+postage and of course this might suit those who have had their taste buds tickled and can’t wait. But £35.99 is a seriously good price and one that will be tempting TheFloatingRumShack.com out of their winter snug for sure!
No excuses – check it out!
