Continuing the series of finalists, we are proud to feature Francesco Turro Turrini’s Bacardi Legacy Cocktail: Pretty in Pink. Francesco is Head Bartender at The Luggage Room, a bar tucked away in a quiet corner of Grosvenor Square, Mayfair that has not long been open. Bacardi Legacy Competition aside, I think we need to get along and check the place out!
Pretty in Pink
15ml dry martini
3 drops peycheud bitters
Method: Shake all the ingredients with ice and strain it over a chilled cocktail glass, garnish with a fancy lemon peel and a luggage tag.
Francesco tells us more about his inspiration:
Looking at the history of Facundo Bacardi Maso and his product what inspire me the most is that what he did has gone way over any expectations he had. 151 years ago a category he wanted to produce a rum and he end up creating a spirit category: the Cuban style rum.
I'd like to do something as good as he did so I'm twisting a drink that represent the rum style of drinks, Tiki drinks such as Mai Tai. Keeping the perfect balance of sweet and sour that come from the original ingredients as orgeat and lime juice that match perfectly the flavour profile of Bacardi superior, I switch the Dutch curaçao for Martini Dry vermouth, I believe that any drink should have something that represent his creator so I'm using something Italian as me, that give deep and herbal notes that goes along with peychaud bitter for a long lasting dry and sweet drink.
So in one drink we have 151 year of heritage, a twist on a great classic, the pink colour that lead to the king of the new classic and a new style of garnish, I work as a humble (head) bartender at Luggage Room so next to the fancy lemon peel there is a luggage tag telling the story behind the cocktail, where you can find it, drink it and all the ingredient in my Pretty in Pink.
