The Trader Vic’s chain of restaurants and bars has been around for 80 long years and that’s a really long time to be bringing the tiki love to the masses. To mark the happy occasion, celebratory events have been lined up (details to follow) and a series of short films produced to detail some of the key cocktails that Trader Vic’s serve and some other rummy favourites!
Rum For Breakfast?
Friday 29th – 31st August 2014
Our friends at Sailor Jerry recently told us that they will be (and I quote) “bringing its bold-as-hell spiced rum and good vibes to the pleasure grounds of Larmer Tree Gardens in Salisbury, for no-frills art and music festival, End of The Road.” Nothing unusual there of course – Sailor Jerry are often supporting music festivals. My attention was caught by one of the serves they are presenting.
Check out the details and see if you aren’t just the little bit curious too…
A Reason To Celebrate!
It’s Friday – that’s enough reason to celebrate for sure, but Notting Hill Carnival is also just around the corner, and thoughts of rum punch spring to mind. Our friends at Wray & Nephew came up with a fab cocktail called Independence Punch that you can make at home and enjoy in the sun!

It’s Something For The Traveller…
HEADLINE: “BACARDÍ announces the launch of BACARDÍ® GRAN RESERVA MAESTRO DE RON, a super-premium white sipping rum, exclusively in Global Travel Retail”
Unfortunately, without a reason to fly somewhere, it seemed like the scope for us tasting it first hand was pretty much zilch. Fortunately, the opportunity to speak to Marc Plumridge, the Global Brand Ambassador for Bacardi Global Travel Retail presented itself along with a glass or two of the rum in question.
So, just what do Bacardi think a super-premium white sipping rum is?
Like Comics? Like Rum? Then Read On…
The creative team at Bacardi raise the 'cool' stakes yet further with their latest project, a graphic novel ‘The Spirit of Bacardi’ that fits seamlessly in with their worldwide Untameable campaign. Check out the details and find out you can download your copy right here.
The Second Coming…
Berry Bros & Rudd unveil the second release of Penny Blue XO and I’ll admit that whilst the first release was not in any way at all a bad product, it just wasn’t super exciting. Safe? Yes. Easy sipping? Yes. Memorable? Well…
So can Batch #002 live up to the promises of Batch #001?
A Summer Thirst Quencher!
We’ve not featured a Friday cocktail for a while, so what with it being all hot sunny, us feeling a little bit lazy (and having the Sailor Jerry Bartender Appreciation Day article fresh in our minds), we’d ask our friends at SJ for a serving suggestion. They came back with the ridiculously simple South Seas cocktail! And what a winner it is!
14th to 17th November 2014
The first Haitian Rum Festival will be held in Port-au-Prince from 14 to 17 November 2014. The events team (J'Organise) are looking to welcome rum fans from all over the world, both amateur and professional alike for what promises to be not only a wonderful showcase for rum, but an opportunity for Haiti to show off the islands crafts and creativity as well. All being well, TheFloatingRumShack.com will be there and I can tell you we are pretty excited about the prospect.
