RUMblin' La Mauny & Trois Rivières Rhum

RUMblin' La Mauny & Trois Rivières Rhum

We Be RUMblin' For The First Time

TheFloatingRumShack.com prides itself as being quick off the mark, but in this case we’ve been lagging behind the times…  The RUMblin’ team have had four rum themed events in London thus far and we’ve completely failed to get along to any of them!

We are determined to put that right though and will be looking to get along to the fifth event (to be held on the 29th November 2012) – which will be featuring some serious Agricole Rhums in La Mauny & Trois Rivières!

RumFest 2012

Another Year!  Another Amazing RumFest!

Or,

Just When Did We All Forget Our Manners?

TheFloatingRumShack.com would like to extend our sincere thanks to the Global Rum Ambassador, Ian Burrell, his entire RumFest team and to all those exhibitors involved in providing the best UK Rum Experience thus far.  And whilst I may have had a few opportunities that the average rum fan didn’t (legitimately) get, i.e.; being on the main stage on more than one occasion, there is no doubt that RumFest 2012 provided TheFloatingRumShack.com with absolutely loads of rum geek-ery, opportunities to socialise and plenty to drink... Whilst the first two points are to be lauded, applauded and appreciated whole heartedly, the third might just be shaping to be something of a problem.

Our friends at Mount Gay have told us that they are running a Twitter competition to tie in with RumFest in which the most imaginative picture of someone wearing one will win a bottle of the fabulous Mount Gay XO rum.

So just how do you go about getting your hands on a hat?

Mount Gay XO Rum

...with Miguel Smith

A perk of running a website like this is that when events like London Cocktail Week come around, the invites tend to come to you, rather than having to apply. (regrettably) We've not had the week off this time to properly indulge in all that the rum world can throw at us and we've had to turn a few exciting invites down...

Botran Reserva Blanca Rum: The UK Launch Event

The UK Launch Event

For TheFloatingRumShack.com Tuesday night was the night that London Cocktail Week finally got going. Rumours of massive feats of drinking on Monday night were politely ignored... If it didn't happen to us: it didn't happen at all!  The arrival of our rummy friends from around the world had set our hearts all-a-flutter and the anticipation had built up quite nicely during the day.  The event would allow us a few hours in the company of the team (which included family member: Isabel Molina Botran) from Ron Botran, Guatemala.

Plantation Rum Single Cask Vintage

Double The Fun!

To celebrate the special RumFest month of October, our friends at Bibendum Spirits have excelled themselves by offering a very special prize to October’s winner: a bottle each of the brand new Single Cask Plantation rums.  The latest arrivals are the rather amazing Guadeloupe 1998 Sauternes Cask Finish and a lovely Trinidad Multi Millesimes - which for those who can’t read French means multi Vintage…  In this case a blend of 1999, 2001 and 2003 Vintages.

The Floating Rum Shack Part 2

Written by Pete on . Posted in Rum Chat

TheFloatingRumShack.com

TheFloatingRumShack.com Starts a Second Ageing…

When we started TheFloatingRumShack.com back in February 2009, we created a mission statement – a goal that was intended to keep us on a true path and prevent us from going off at tangents.  It was a good call and apart from the odd dalliance, we’ve stuck with our plan.  The last year though has seen us getting a level of recognition from the drinks industry we didn’t expect and so we think it’s a good time to mark our card for the future and share our personal goals.

Now the ‘old’ website is based around an installation of Joomla that’s well out of date – it’s becoming a security risk and so I need to take it offline for a bit, with the goal of updating its engine and bringing it back online a bit later on.

With the biggest Rum event on the calendar (RumFest) virtually upon us, the prospect of not having a ‘live’ site to hand would be an unforgivable missed opportunity, hence this new offering.

Combining the new site with the new mission statement, we have the makings of an exciting new beginning for us.

Takamaka Bay St André 8 Year Old Rum

Takamaka Bay

Rhum des Seychelles

Rum from the Indian Ocean isn’t new – we’ve tried a few, but I’m pretty sure that Takamaka Bay is the first rhum we’ve tried from the Seychelles and to be absolutely honest – had we not been fortuitously introduced to David Owens (a very nice chap who is working with the Trois Frères Distillery) then we may have never got around to trying it.  Well not until next month at RumFest – but more of that later.

Plantation Rum Guatemala Pineau Cask Finish

Bottled Exclusively for Gerry’s London Old 74…

It’s the little quirks of fate I love so much; A chance conversation on the phone with Allen at Gerry’s Wines and Spirits last April or May primed me with the knowledge that they were commissioning a single cask bottling of rum.  It was planned to be available in their fine establishment sometime in September.
