The Larder House (one of our fav local hotspots) has developed a reputation for throwing a party on a grand scale. James and team often go all out to make an experience truly memorable and have previously tackled the categories of gin and whisky (part of which involved flooding a section of the restaurant to create a Japanese water garden). This time – and perhaps because of TheFloatingRumShack.com influence – it’s going to be all about the world of rum. Yeap – the whole world of rum – tackled across five stages – in one evening! *
“I say Rhum, you say Clément!”
A short while ago, seventeen bartenders and all the associated brand teams, journalists and a few rhum enthusiasts from ten countries came together on the beautiful country of Martinique – a real jewel of the eastern Caribbean – to contest the Global Finals of the Rhum Clément Ti’Punch Cup! And I have to tell you that TheFloatingRumShack.com was super excited to be a part of what proved to be an amazing trip.
A Tiki Celebration!
The Hukilau will celebrate its 15th anniversary in June with a historic celebration of Tiki culture and the 60th anniversary of The Mai-Kai, joined by a very special guest artist. Shag, aka Josh Agle, will provide his artistic talents and also participate in several special events at the Hyatt Regency Pier 66 hotel. Co-founder/organizer Christie "Tiki Kiliki" White promises "a celebration of epic proportions" during the June 8-12 festivities.
The Home of Rum In Grenada!
The eagle-eyed reader might well notice that this website carries a link for the Rumboat Retreat in Grenada. This fab location is the result of the hard work of our friend Lisette who had a specific vision for a place that vacationers to Grenada could enjoy! Actively promoting all the wonderful cultural and natural places on the Spice Isle, but also rum – which is not only the spirit of Grenada but the Caribbean as well!
When: 21st June, 7.30-9.00pm (BST)
It’s been a while since we’ve hosted a Twitter Tasting and as this Summer is going to be all about the Olympic Games in Brazil, we’ve been on something of a cachaça mission of late. Yaguara have kindly stepped up to the mark and agreed to share some of their secrets with us all and offer those involved a chance to taste one expression of cachaça that you’ll just not be able to get any other way.
Two Masters… One Love!
I just had to share this press release from Gruppo Campari, as we here at TheFloatingRumShack have so much love, on so many levels for Joy Spence. We’ve had the pleasure of meeting her a number of times over the years and hope that there will be many more as the ambassador role that she fulfills really is inspiring. To help put her passion into context, I thought I’d share a brief story that arose from the last time I met her.
A Glimpse at The Future…
Given that 2016 is the 50th Anniversary of Guyana’s independence from the United Kingdom, you genuinely could expect this year to contain a few fairly exciting releases from DDL in celebration of the fact. Until now, if you wanted to taste a really old single still, single cask rum produced at Demerara Distillers Limited – your choices were limited somewhat. With the end of the Velier releases, the future looked ‘empty’, but now that the actual producer of the rum has come to realise that there is a lot of kudos to be gained through releasing their own rum, under their own label, I suspect that there will be more to come in future. Especially as these are so good.
Venceremos is the 2016 ‘Legacy’
I think it goes without saying that I’m pretty keen to try the winning cocktail from the recent Global Finals of Bacardi Legacy. Initially more than a little nonplussed about the “inspired by the Piña Colada” line, the subsequent feedback from our Cocktail Wonk buddy has now whetted my appetite sufficiently, though!
Press Release: Sailor Jerry, will be hitting the road once again for round two of “The Ride”. Kicking off on Saturday 2nd July, three bad-ass, bike building teams from across the UK will be tasked with a series of epic challenges and compete against each other on a hell raising journey of balls-to-wall riding.
