Havana Club Launch Global Music Campaign

Gilles Peterson and Havana Club Cultura Mix

Bringing Cuban Culture to the Masses…

From time to time we get a press release that’s not particularly rummy (or even at all rummy in this case), but feels like we should pass the word on because the prize is particularly awesome!  This is one of those times…  And I’m sure that the winner will also have access to a particularly fine selection of rum as well as an amazing ten day music making stay in Havana!

Zwazo Liqueurs des Iles: Fruit Infused Rum

A Taste of the Caribbean

A fruit infused rum is the all-natural version of a spiced rum, and whilst it’s not a serve that is typically English, it’s apparent that it’s a fairly popular serve in France and its Caribbean overseas territories.  Take some rhum and rum, fresh fruits, vanilla and sugar cane to sweeten and you have a vibrant, fruity liqueur.

Bacardi Legacy Cocktail Competition 2013 UK Finals

Three Most Promising: Only One Winner!

Last February 2013 TheFloatingRumShack.com attended the UK finals of the Bacardi Legacy Cocktail Competition.  It was held in a beautifully decorated Victorian warehouse near Farringdon called The Farmiloe and was easily one of the most lavish events we’ve ever attended.  The competition initially took a little while for me to grasp – it’s a competition that takes just over two years to play out; from initial competitor entry to the selection of the UK’s representative in the global finals.  It’s a competition that you shouldn’t enter without being prepared to devote significant period of time to as the demands increase the further you progress.

On the Rum – Flavours of Barbados by Ella Jameson

Barbados’s Rum Legacy

When people think of Barbados, chances are that images of white sand, sparkling turquoise water and swaying coconut trees are the first things that come to mind. Defined by its incredible beach-side beauty, friendly locals and tropical climate, Barbados has become synonymous with the leisurely Caribbean way of life and is one of the most popular destinations to escape to in the winter time. However, it isn’t just its beaches that Barbados is famous for: its rum is also celebrated (and drank!) throughout the world.

Flying Dutchman Rum No 1

Flying Dutchman Rum No 1 (Dutch Rum)

Let’s Go Dutch?

For TheFloatingRumShack.com, the spirit of Christmas (just) past really presented something of a surprise.  The gift-giver felt we would be interested in something a little different; rum for sure, but this one is entirely produced in The Netherlands, in fact we are told it’s the only commercially available Dutch rum available.  We all know that being unique is far from a guarantee of quality, but with the promise of “it’s really good” ringing in our ears, we just had to take a sip.

Actually, it turned out to be a lot more than a sip…

Brugal Especial Extra Dry Rum

Cocktail Time…

Cocktail recipes often arrive in the inbox of TheFloatingRumShack.com – some stand out, others quickly fade into the background. This one felt seasonal, in a “New Year diet, low calorie, and fresh fruit” kind of way.
