Following on from the success of the initial offering last year (2017), ExcellenceRhum has just announced the four rums comprising the 2018 release.

• Guyana / Diamond Distillery Port Mourant - MPM 2008 - 62.2% - €120
• Jamaica / [Withheld]* - [Withheld]* 2007 - 57% - €120
• Barbados / Foursquare - MBFS 2007 - 62.8% - €120

*The press release details named the source of this rum, but I think this may be in error so I’m going to withhold this information for now.

All released at cask strength with no added sugar, colouring, or chill filtration, in order to respect the rum in its natural state.

Having been pleased to take receipt of a tasting sample of each, I’m exceptionally pleased to say that all four are quite delicious. My previous experience with Fijian rum has been mixed, but I found this to be very drinkable, if perhaps a little unexciting.  

The Port Mourant is as delicious as I’d hope for – opening the bottle fills your nose with the unmistakable aroma long before you’ve got it in the glass; The same can be said for the Foursquare. All very representative and a wonderful sip in both cases. 

The biggest surprise was with the Jamaican – not at all what I expected and actually very pleasing for it. I guess that’s the thing with single casks – you should expect something different. In this case a nutty, menthol note I’ve not really experienced before from the producer.
