"Do You Have What It Takes To Be The Face Of Bundaberg Rum?"
That's the question the esteemed panel of judges will be asking to the nervous contestants in January 2010. Bundaberg rum - the quintessententially Australian rum is looking for a face to represent the brand in the New Year. It's not a bad job - £200 to the winner, plus a years supply of Bundaberg rum as a prize and the opportunity to represent the brand at all manner of parties - not least being the increasingly popular Australia day celebrations.
As in any 'talent', 'face of' competition, the winner must have the right mix of talent, humour and beauty to properly represent the brand. The judges: Tom Sandham (http://www.dwink.com), the one and only Ian 'Rum Ambassador' Burrell will surely have their work cut out for them. I'm sure that they can't be bribed, threatened or manipulated in any way...
Now then, it's not just a free-for-all. If you think you have what it takes, you've got to enter. The lucky chap who gets to review the candidates is Antoni at Inspirit Brands (the UK partners of Bundaberg rum). You need to send a full length photo of yourself, along with a head shot and a 50 word summary of why you would make the ultimate Miss Bundy UK. If you're thinking of entering, then you can email Antoni on

but I reckon you should get a wiggle on - successful contestants will be notified by 15th January 2010. Counting back, you need to be submitting your entry details a good few days before then, to stand a chance of getting in. Finals day is on the 24th January - successful contestants need to be able to travel to The Walkabout, Temple Bar (London) to take part, but more importantly - you do need to be over 18 and have a valid work permit/visa (damn those rules eh?). Apparently, there will be challenges... Aussie Sheila's are a tough lot, I don't have the details, but I'm sure the challenges will separate the women from the girls, and perhaps even the ladies!
The posters will be up in The Walkabout bars around the country, but just in case you've missed it - click on the thumbnail to catch an eyeful yourself.
It's a strange (and pleasant) thing when TheFloatingRumShack.com keeps it's ear to the ground and comes across these sort of events. Bundaberg rum is something that I know my brother likes, but I can honestly say I've never tried it myself! I'm looking forward to correcting this oversight ('cos it's not as if I've never heard of the stuff) at the finals day party. There will be a whole load of promotions and probably the makings of one hell of a party. Bundaberg is as Australian as kangaroo's, Bondi beach and loosing the Ashes in England (ha! ha! - had to get just one little bit of Aussie bashing in!). It's got the backpacker heritage and the Aussie vibe. Originally the Polar Bear signified that 'it could ward off any winter chill' - now it's just the symbol of the ultimate party animal - showing drinkers the Australian way to a good time.
Gumtree conveniently offer a map to the finals venue - check out the ad here. Of course if you're proper disposed to getting involved, the perhaps you should join the Facebook group as well - click here to do so, or perhaps the fan page thus...
If we get to hear what the challenges are - we'll spill the beans. Good luck!
