There has been a great deal of press coverage of the recent earthquake in Haiti and whilst publicity can assist, it takes actual effort to make a difference. Emily, a friend of TheFloatingRumShack.com is going the extra yard (or considerably more) to do her bit. I'll let her tell you all about it in her words.
Dear all,
I signed up for a 10k run which I will complete in Edinburgh in May - http://www.greatrun.org/events/Event.aspx?id=3
I have been considering which charities I want to support by getting sponsored, however, without feeling a particular affinity to one or another I have ummed and arhed about who I want to help.
The recent events in Haiti are really close to my heart, having read and invested so much of my time reading about it, and I feel terrible about one of the poorest countries in the world being stricken with such a terribly devastating natural disaster. So what I would like to do is contact all of my colleagues, friends and family to ask them to donate money NOW rather than me saving all the way until May and handing the money over then on the web relief address of http://www.dec.org.uk/donate_now/ or by calling 0370 6060900 so all funds go STAIGHT to Disasters Emergency Committees Haiti appeal and help the poor people who are suffering so badly.
I have also set up a just giving site in case people think I won't complete the run! – I definitely will, but I want to cover all angles.

I would be eternally grateful as well as the Haitians.
With Love
Emily
TheFloatingRumShack.com would never like to feel like they bullied anyone into giving, but in the words of Sir Bob Geldolf - 'Give us yer bloody money!'
