Another cocktail competition to bring to the attention of rum fans - only this time its not for the Brits! I know that this blog is aimed at bigging up the UK rum scene, but approximately a third of the readers to this site are from across the pond and so it's not unreasonable I think. I have another reason as well - the competition is being run by a friend of TheFloatingRumShack.com - Paul Imbesi, the Barritt's Ginger Beer Brand Manager for North American Beverage Co. Pauline and I met Paul at a party last year and we've stayed in contact, when he told me about the competition I really wanted to help out by spreading the word.
It's a great competition too. A four day (three nights) holiday to Bermuda with air travel and hotel accommodation included for two people is the top prize. So just how do you stand a chance of winning this fab prize? Come up with a cocktail that makes best use of Barritt's Ginger Beer in it - simple really. There are T&C's of course - so make sure to check them out [click here to take a look], but primarily the drink must contain at least one fluid ounce of Barritt's Ginger Beer to be eligible for entry - the rest of the drink is up for you.
There's a strong chance that you've already seen the advertising at retail outlets already - but just in case you've missed it - check out the following link for all the information. There are separate prizes for the best consumer and retailer entries - so there's no need to feel left out.

The competition runs from 9th February until the 26th April 2010, so best get your skates on. The winner will be announced at the Miami Rum Renaissance Festival.
Ginger beer is a much under estimated drink. It's been getting something of a dusting off here in the UK and I know that it's been a favourite of a few of our mixologist friends. A rum and ginger beer is such an amazing combination. Please don't let me steer you in any one direction though - creativity is king. Dark 'n Stormy's are one of the more well known cocktails and the judges are going to be onto anyone submitting one of those under a different name!
I'm looking forward to seeing what the American public can come up with on this competition and I'm going to be just a little bit jealous of the winners when they jet off on their fabulous holidays.
