Become Part of the Legend…

Bacardi Legacy Cocktail Competition 2012TheFloatingRumShack.com has seen that Bacardi have just thrown down the gauntlet to the UK’s bartenders in the hope that some will choose to compete in its annual Legacy Cocktail Competition.

If you hope to walk in the footsteps of great bartenders such as Ago Perrone, Matthew Dakers and Zdenek Kastanek who have all enjoyed worldwide fame as a result of their winning cocktail, then you need to get your act together and enter.

Can we offer any advice?  Well – from what we’ve seen, the formula is pretty simple – keep it simple!  Keep it tasty, classically inspired and don’t forget the most important thing – flatter the sponsor – Bacardi want someone to come up with a cocktail that showcases Bacardi rum.  To be honest I think that working with a light rum is a real test of skill – don’t go smothering the life out of it!

We’ve been happy to feature quite a few Bacardi Legacy cocktails on our site so far – and we’ll happily continue to do so with anyone who wants to share their recipe with us.

Bacardi Legacy Cocktail Competition 2012

Press Release: BACARDÍ, the world’s best-selling premium rum, has declared the UK registration of its Legacy Cocktail Competition open and is challenging bartenders around the country to create a truly great cocktail that will represent the UK in the global final. Now in its fourth year, the BACARDÍ Legacy Cocktail Competition (BLCC) is a chance for the best contemporary bartenders to create a balanced, refreshing, appealing and enduring drink that will become as celebrated as cocktails such as the BACARDÍ Mojito and BACARDÍ Daiquiri.

Are You Original?

Bartenders wishing to compete in the BLCC will need to register their unique and BACARDÍ inspired cocktail at www.bacardilegacy.com by 22nd October 2012 at 5pm. The first 200 entries will be put into a prize draw to win a BACARDÍ Trunk filled with rare BACARDÍ rums worth £500.

The competition is divided into four regional heats, in which up to fifteen shortlisted bartenders from each region are judged in their own bars. The heats will take place in Edinburgh on the 5th November, Manchester on the 6th November, London on the 12th November and in Bristol on the 13th November.  With the regional finalists then going head-to-head in the national final which takes place on 7th February 2013 in London. It’s a night not to be missed!

The three most promising bartenders from the national final will then be given a budget and six months to market their BACARDÍ cocktail in a three-way race to become the UK’s entry to the global final taking place in February 2014. The winning cocktail will then compete against rival BACARDÍ concoctions from around the world, in a chance to become part of the legacy of BACARDÍ original cocktails.

The three most promising will also each win a silver plated Parisian Shaker, a trip to Puerto Rico & Mexico to visit both distilleries and a trip to Miami to visit the Bacardi Archives.

Inspiring Truly Great Cocktails

Liam Newton, Marketing Director at BACARDÍ, comments; “BACARDÍ rum has undeniably inspired some of the world’s greatest cocktails. We want our BACARDÍ Legacy Cocktail Competition to be considered the premier platform for bartenders to showcase their creativity in coming up with the next BACARDÍ Legacy cocktail that will stand the test of time. The competition has been created for truly talented bar professionals from all types of outlet and all areas around the UK and keeps growing in popularity, demonstrating BACARDÍ‘s position at the forefront of modern day cocktail culture.

Becoming part of the BACARDÍ legacy is an amazing opportunity and the BLCC is a great chance for bartenders to become part of the BACARDÍ story. We are really excited to see the creativity behind the cocktails being put forward and we would urge all those who have been working on their own BACARDÍ inspired cocktail to sign up via the BACARDÍ Legacy site and compete in the BLCC.”

Registration to enter the BACARDÍ Legacy Cocktail Competition is now open until 1st October 2012. Terms and conditions apply and full details can be found at www.bacardilegacy.com
